Georgia Welcomes Volkswagen Automotive Suppliers

Volkswagen’s new automotive production facility in Chattanooga, scheduled to begin production in early 2011, will be served by a large number of vendors and suppliers. With the plant’s location adjacent to Interstate 75 and very close to the state line, many of those suppliers are sure to find a home in Georgia.

A new web portal offers extensive information on available properties in northwest Georgia and includes an interactive map. Available sites are shown by county and include market profiles, site details and site summaries. Available buildings are shown by size: 100,000 square feet or smaller; between 100,000 and 200,000 square feet; and greater than 200,000 square feet. Thumbnails, building details and summaries can be found for each.

The portal also has information on Georgia’s incentives, such as job tax credits, investment credits, and the state’s Quick Start training program.

The Volkswagen plant will produce a mid-sized sedan designed specifically for the North American consumer. Initial production capacity for the facility is anticipated to be 150,000 vehicles. Volkswagen hopes to be selling 800,000 Volkswagens in the U.S. by 2018, and the new plant in Chattanooga will play a key role.
