Port of Savannah Increases Cargo Capacity
The new Chatham Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) at the Georgia Ports Authority’s Garden City Terminal opened in January, making the Port of Savannah the only single facility on the U.S. East Coast with two on-terminal ICTFs.
The new facility features three working tracks at 2,145 ft. each and a total of 12,406 ft. of storage tracks. CSX will provide seven weekly services through the facility. The use of Rubber-Tired Gantry cranes at the ICTF will increase efficiency and utilize cleaner burning ultra-low-sulfur diesel, cutting emissions by 10 percent and creating a reduction in nitrogen oxide, carbon and particulate matter emissions.
Georgia’s deepwater ports and inland barge terminals support more than 286,476 jobs throughout the state annually and contribute $14.9 billion in income, $55.8 billion in revenue and $2.8 billion in state and local taxes to Georgia’s economy. For more information, visit www.gaports.com.
