Tal Wright Joins Community & Economic Development

In January, Tal Wright became the new director of Economic Development for Georgia Power, replacing John D’Andrea. Tal’s responsibilities include leading the organization’s efforts in business recruitment, research and engineering services as well as management of the Georgia Resource Center.

Southern Company Ranked No. 1
Southern Company, Georgia Power’s parent, was ranked No. 1 in the electric and gas utility sector of FORTUNE’s 2011 list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” in a report released March 3. Southern Company has ranked No. 1 four times since 2002 in the FORTUNE survey and has been in the top five four other times. >>more


Education:  11th in AP Exams
Georgia ranks 11th in the nation in the percentage of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on Advanced Placement (AP) Exams, according to The College Board's AP Report to the Nation. The report measures progress of the class of 2010.
Georgia Ports Update
The Port of Savannah experienced nearly 20 percent growth in 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for calendar year 2010 with a record 2,826,308 TEUs. Strong export volume outpaced imports with a record 1,488,670 TEU exports, which comprised 52.8 percent of Savannah’s total throughput. >>more
Sany America Opens New Facility in Georgia
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal joined with Gov. Qiang Zhou of China’s Hunan Province, SANY Group Chairman Wengen Liang and other dignitaries on Feb. 28 to recognize the phase 1 construction completion of SANY America’s North American assembly plant in Peachtree City.
